Karl Lagerfield, Creative Director of Chanel, in 2001
"No one wants to see curvy women. You've got fat mothers with their bags of chips sitting in front of the television and saying thin models are ugly. Fashion is about dreams and illusions."

Lagerfeld on the runway, 2000
How bizarre, especially coming from a man who has forgotten he was once morbidly obese. These days, he looks like he just crawled out of a crypt...

Lagerfeld, 2009
Lagerfeld's remarks today were in response to the German magazine, Brigitte, reporting last week that it would no longer feature professional models...that "it would only publish photographs of 'real women' after readers complained they could not identify with the models depicted."
And here are a few more of Lagerfeld's bons mots from January, 2009:
"Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld dismissed "childish" criticism of the fur industry, calling animals "beasts" he has trouble eating meat.
From The Telegraph:
"Hunters in the north "make a living having learnt nothing else than hunting", he said, "killing those beasts who would kill us if they could."
Animals should be killed "nicely" if at all possible, said Lagerfeld, who admitted to being queasy about eating meat.
"I can hardly eat meat because it has to look like something what it was not when it was alive," he said.
Lagerfeld went on to roll his eyes at concerns over eating disorders in the fashion industry.
"In France there are, I think, less than one per cent of people who are too skinny.
"There are nearly 30 per cent of young people who are too fat. So let's take care of the zillions of the too fat before we talk about the percentage that's left."
Two words for you, Karl...ball gag.

I am from Germany and all i can say is your absolutely right.. someone should shove something down his once food-welcoming-throat..so that he shuts the hell up..i think its great what brigitte does, also i loved Lizzi miller's picture in Glamour..People should realize that what some of us deal with is a disease and that it's not the most desirable thing to look like one of these stick thin models karl seems to adore so much..So Karl here's a message for you: use the damn power that you, for some reason, have and do something good with it and don't animate people like that to ruin there bodies!
All you women out there should be proud of what you got!
This just makes me sick. There's just so many ignorant people out there that don't get it and don't want to get it. He looked a bit overweight in the first photo but healther than he did when he lost more weight. His look changed and appeared he has mental issues with how weird he appeared. Must be the lack of food! idiot. His brain is not functioning right which happens when you deny the body of precious nutrients.
He's basically promoting anorexia because only anorexics could wear the fashion his models are wearing.
Ralph Lauren is another idiot. Did you see the recent photo in the headlines of the model photo shopped to look grotesquely anorexic?
Love your headline Medusa! lol

I agree 100% that Karl should just shut up, or at least describe his views on the "fantasy" of fashion without disparaging the looks or supposed lifestyles of others.
I also think, though, that Karl's looks should be left out of this (regardless of how you find him)...
And incidentally, I do miss seeing those fans. (The Karl-Lagerfeld-fan-thing was part of my favorite bits from Margaret Cho!)
I disagree anonymous about his looks being left out regardless of how I feel. He puts the models "death" looks at hand and therefore the same should be done of him!
Maybe he should just stop talking about other people's weight and eating all together- he obviously must have nothing else better to do. Which is so sad. I pity this man for being so low that he discriminate against others because of their weight. Its none of his business and maybe he needs to go work at Wal-Mart (where he belongs) instead of the fashion industry.
I do agree that he needs to promote healthy eating in his models -- not promote the stick thin anorexic look. However, I do think he has a point -- obesity is a much more widespread problem than anorexia. We should worry about that, too; not just the super skinny models.
Is it an "illusion" that models are dying to fit into the freakishly small clothing that you design Mr. Lagerfield?
Wow. Just wow.
