THE BAREFOOT CONTESSA (INA GARTEN) DENIES A VERY SICK LITTLE BOY HIS WISH...[UPDATE: BOYCOTT !]

The Barefoot Contessa (Ina Garten) and Enzo (6 years old).
Enzo is suffering from Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia

Words cannot describe the disgust I feel for Ina Garten (aka The Barefoot Contessa). Her heartless denial (not once but twice) of Enzo's wish through the Make-A-Wish Foundation for Ina to spend an hour with him is simply mind-boggling. How could this woman not take an hour out of her so-called busy schedule to grant this very sick little boy his wish?

Please take a moment to read about Enzo on his mom's blog, Angels for Enzo:

New Facebook pages have suddenly sprouted. Check out the comments.

Fortunately, celebrity chefs  Beau MacMillan and Michael Symon have stepped up to the plate:

I truly hope everyone who reads this not only boycotts her show on the Food Network but also her books. This heartless woman needs a wake-up call.

Karma's a bitch, Ina.

  1. So heartless and rude! She should be honored that a dying child wants to spend his last days with her....shame shame shame.

  2. Honestly, I think you're overreacting. There's always two sides to every story, and we only have one with this one (and one that's been reported by TMZ at that). We don't know what's going on in Ina Garten's life right now; perhaps she's dealing with a personal or family tragedy and simply doesn't feel the need to publicize her personal life. Perhaps she lost a family member to the same disease and simply can't deal with the emotional issues that this would raise. She's only human, after all. To brand her a heartless monster without knowing what, exactly, is going on with her is quite unfair.

  3. Oh, and I find it very strange that this has been Enzo's wish for three years - the kid's six now. What three-year-old wants to cook with Ina Garten? Frankly, it smacks of parental interference.

  4. Actually, I worked in a children's oncology clinic in San Francisco where the littlest kids--some of them three or four years of age--were fascinated by things like cooking shows, Car Talk, etc. One little boy wanted to be on Antiques Roadshow. One of the nurses theorized that these kids showed an unusual interest in things like these because it was not ever sad or frightening, unlike fictional programs. I don't know if she was right, but I do think this woman Ina made a serious error in not contacting the family herself & just saying a private 'I am sorry but I can't do that because...' if she had a reason beyond just being despicable. In her industry, how she's perceived matters & it was naive to think a straight 'no' to make-a-wish wouldn't be seen as heartless. It isn't like this is JK Rowling or Queen Elizabeth--she's some woman with a freaking cooking show who might be busy, but probably no busier than any of us who work 40 to 60 hours a week. But until she did this, I'd never heard of this woman. Good reason or not for turning this kid down, it was a remarkably twatty way to handle it.

  5. I signed the petition, Medusa, and I am a bereaved parent by the way ~ so yes, there is a certain amount of personal emotional disgust at the lack of compassion.

Words fail, and so does Ina Garten.

  6. Oh, Gloria, my heart goes out to you. My deepest sympathy on the loss of your child. Being a mom myself, I can't imagine the pain you've gone through and continue to suffer.

Thank you so much for taking the time to sign the Petition.

    Hugs,
