HEIDI DIAZ: STRAIGHT FROM THE HORSE'S MOUTH...

Since the lid was blown off Heidi Diaz's claim to have lost 200 pounds in a year, going from 318 pounds to 118 pounds, and the revelations that she has NEVER lost a pound doing her own Kimkins starvation diet and that she used Russian bride pictures as her "after" pictures to depict her amazing weight loss, Heidi Diaz aka Kimmer has continued to spout shameful lies and deadly advice to her members at Kimkins.

One of my fellow bloggers, MJR, has recently posted some scandalous exchanges between Heidi Diaz (Kimmer) and members of Kimkins.

I have gone through Heidi's interviews with Jimmy Moore and screen shots taken from her website and have amassed just a very small collection of her lies and shocking advice. Here are just a few:

"I've lost weight many times in my life."

"I've been at goal for nearly 6 years and my old 318-pound life seems like eons ago!"

"As my 40th birthday approached I had a talk with myself, 'Kimmer, this is getting ridiculous. Lose a little, gain it back, lose a lot, gain it back. You need to either do it once and for all, or give it up and accept your size 26 life.'"

"Slowly I sat myself down on the couch and knew this was it. No more excuses. What had I let happen to myself? How in denial can a person be? "

"Yes, 160 pounds lost in 7 months and 200 pounds in just under 1 year. It's totally possible!"

"The weight losses that Kimkins member post are just as impressive (in some cases, more so!) I lost 17 lbs the first 10 days, which is typical for me and Kimkins, after that roughly 4-6 lbs a week. No sweat."

"I find it hard to believe that some people consider a “stall” to be no weight loss for 4 weeks! Yikes! After just 4 days I'd be demanding a Congressional investigation! There is absolutely no reason, none, to "stall" unless you want to."

"I have always lost weight quickly."

'I accept all compliments from handsome men! Losing 200 lbs has literally been like freeing an albatross from around my neck. I was so desperately unhappy. Despite lying to myself that my size didn't matter, and although I was blessed with good health despite 300+ pounds, I knew I was harming my body."

"Now, a slim size 4, I look back and wonder what took me so long to get serious? I now fit into theater seats without even touching the arms! Seat belts aren't anxiety provoking. My confidence has soared! No longer do I fear developing diabetes."

"But probably the most blessed part of being thin and healthy is the pride my children have in me. No longer do I wonder whether they might be embarrassed by their 318-pound mom at school events or the mall. It almost seems as though they show me off!"

"First, I removed all of the instant “pop in your mouth” junk and stuck whatever else in the freezer. Second, as I dropped my pounds my “too big” clothes were donated to the homeless shelter where I volunteer. Third, I needed a reminder the first few days so I placed masking tape in a large X across my bedroom doorway so as I woke in the morning I'd automatically remember I was on a mission to lose 200 pounds!"

"I don't ever want to regain my weight. As a reminder, I hung onto a pair of size 26 jeans which I keep hanging in a corner of my closet. I bring them out once a week and try them on. Once again, I can't believe I was ever that big! What was I thinking?"

"No one knows better than I how miserable it is to be obese."

"Not everyone gets from A-Z in the weight loss game the first try. Or the second."

"Frankly, when I see the tight knit family our Kimkins members have built for each other, I almost wish I was starting my weight loss journey all over again. Almost."

"OK fellow fasters, today is the day! Last night I taped my bedroom doorway with a piece of thin masking tape, so I'd walk through it this morning and it would remind me today is the start of my 30 day water fast (I'm a creature of habit and would have gone right to the fridge for a glass of diet 7-Up or Cystal Light otherwise, LOL ) This morning I weighed 136."

"I started at 318...and then my final weight now is between 118-122 or just in between there. And it did take 11 months. And that includes losing 11 lbs the first day, I’m a water sponge, I retain water like no one you’ve ever met."

Jimmy Moore: "So how long has it been since you’ve kept the weight off?"
Heidi Diaz: "It’s been five, five and a half years."
Jimmy Moore: "So a little more than five years, you’ve maintained right around that 118-122 mark."
Heidi Diaz: "Yeah. Yeah."

"Kimkins is a combination of the original 1972 Atkins, a little bit of Stillman’s, plus my own tweaks, with a lower calorie emphasis."

Jimmy Moore: "Well um, just to make it real clear, about how many calories do you think that is?"
Heidi Diaz: "When I checked it seemed to be between 1400 and 1700 a day (J: OK) which is, which is perfect for me...my carbs seem to be 80 to 100ish, sometimes I go over..."
Jimmy Moore: "Is the Kimkins diet safe to do over the long term, now you’ve been eating this way what, six or seven years now, and you seem to be doing well –"
Heidi Diaz: I haven’t died yet – "

"I also turn teenagers away...we have teenagers on site, but teenagers as I know first hand, tend to be extreme."

"Don’t panic about low calories."

"As long as you have sufficient body fat you don’t need to eat calories."

"As you lose weight, your body will need fewer calories."

"Your calories were a bit high at 1350′ish."

"If I am already deep in to kimkins (on week 3) and losing about a pound a day on 500-700 calories."

"Eating beef for the first time can cause a temporary “scale” stall."

"For me it was Captain Morgan & Wild Cherry Pepsi … and not just one."

"The bottom line for the Domino Effect is that when your carbs are cut to the bone and you FOLLOW YOUR INSTINCT and not eat when you’re not hungry … calories get very low and you lose like crazy! "

"I knew my calories would drop like a rock once my appetite was gone, but low calories alone aren’t enough. It has to be very, very low carb low calories. "

"Consider countries where food is scarce and citizens very thin. Why aren’t their bodies holding onto fat? Isn’t that supposed to be what happens? Remember holocaust victims who survived on very, very little. Both examples lost weight quickly on very low calories."

"Well 24 lbs in 2.5 weeks is excellent by any standards! What are you eating at 300-500 calories? Your carbs must be around 4-6 per day?The most common “domino interruption” cause is adding a food."

I am refraining from commenting on Heidi's lies and advice because, frankly, I am at a total loss for words.

The sooner this piece of shite is locked up, the better...and hopefully before one of her members at Kimkins dies.

Some of the above quotations were taken from a recent blog post by my fellow blogger, MJR. Please take a moment to read her wonderful blog post here:

KIMMER...MEET ISABELLE CARO

The Nolita ad campaign has shocked people with its image of an anorexic woman

Heidi Diaz...this is what your Kimkins starvation diet can lead to...

"September 25, 2007

FASHION CHAIN CONFRONTS EATING DISORDERS
Hard-Hitting Ad Shows Naked Anorexic Woman

"The Nolita ad campaign has shocked people with its image of an anorexic woman.

Back in 1992, photographer Oliviero Toscani caused controversy around the world with his pictures of a man dying of AIDS which formed part of a Benetton advertising campaign. Now he is back in the headlines with an equally shocking image of a naked anorexic woman, which a fashion chain is using to raise awareness about eating disorders.

The Nolita advertisement, timed to coincide with Milan fashion week, appeared Monday in Italian newspapers, including a two-page center spread in La Repubblica, and on billboards in Italy. A slogan above the naked photograph reads "No Anorexia."

Flash&Partners, the fashion group that owns the Nolita brand, said in a statement that Toscani's aim was "to use that naked body to show everyone the reality of this illness, caused in most cases by the stereotypes imposed by the world of fashion."

The woman in the photo is Isabelle Caro from France, who is 27 years old and has been anorexic for 15 years. She weighs a mere 68 lbs. and suffers from the skin disease, psoriasis.

Caro said, "I've hidden myself and covered myself for too long. Now I want to show myself fearlessly, even though I know my body arouses repugnance. I want to recover because I love life and the riches of the universe. I want to show young people how dangerous this illness is. Just because modelling is seen as glamorous, [the industry] seems to think it is outside normal health and safety issues. It is time it started taking care of its workers."
Many people blame the fashion industry and the obsession with stick-thin size zero models for the rise in cases of anorexia. Calls for action within the British fashion industry led to a full-scale investigation into the problems by a panel of experts this year.
The report by the Model Health Inquiry, which was published last week on the eve of London Fashion Week, made 14 recommendations including requiring models to pass medical checks before being allowed on the catwalk and barring appearances from those under 16.
Unveiling the report, chairman of the inquiry, Baroness Kingsmill, slammed the fashion world for allowing young girls to be exploited.
In Madrid and Milan, authorities have banned the appearance of ultra-skinny models on catwalks by forcing models to carry certificates proving they are healthy. Last year, super-skinny models were banned from Madrid Fashion Week. The ban covers girls with a body mass index of below 18 -- 18.5 to 25 is considered to be "normal."
Italy's health minister Livia Turco backed the campaign and said: "The disturbing image of Isabelle Caro could open an original channel for communication and encourage people to shoulder their responsibilities in the area of anorexia."
Italy's Ministry of Health supported the Nolita campaign and Health Minister Livia Turco said it can "promote responsibility towards the problem of anorexia." Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana also praised the ad. "Finally, someone says the truth about anorexia, that it's not a fashion problem but a psychiatric problem," the Italian news agency ANSA quoted the celebrity designer duo as saying.

The issue was brought to the forefront after the starvation-related deaths of South American models Ana Carolina Reston, 21, and sisters Luisel and Eliana Ramos. All died in the past year. 22-year-old model Luisel Ramos collapsed and died at a show in Uruguay, after having gone days without eating properly.

"Luisel Ramos (born c. 1984August 2, 2006) was a Uruguayan model.

On August 2, 2006, at 9:15 p.m., Ramos died of heart failure caused by anorexia nervosa[1] while participating in a fashion show during Fashion Week in Montevideo, Uruguay. Ramos had felt ill after walking the runway and subsequently fainted on her way back to the dressing room. She died at the age of 22.
Ramos' father told police that she had gone "several days" without eating. She was reported to have adopted a diet of lettuce leaves and Diet Coke for the three months before her death.[2] At the time of her death she had a body mass index (BMI) of about 14.5 due to having weighed little more than 7 stone (98 lb, 44 kg) despite being 5 ft 9 in tall (1.75 m).[3] The World Health Organization considers a BMI of around 16 to be starvation.[4]

In the wake of Ramos' death, the Madrid Fashion Week (held in September 2006) set a minimum BMI of 18 for all models.[2] In December that year, Italian fashion designers banned size zero models from walking down their catwalks.[5]

On February 13, 2007, her 18-year-old sister Eliana Ramos, also a model, died at her grandparents' home in Montevideo of an apparent heart attack,[6] believed to be related to malnutrition.[7] " (from Wikipedia)

For those who may feel that this billboard campaign could "promote" anorexia nervosa, please read this excellent article by Susie Orbach of the Guardian Unlimited:

"I am surprised to read that colleagues working with girls and women with eating and body difficulties have responded negatively to the pictures of Isabelle Caro, the 27-year-old actress who weighs just 31 kilograms, displayed on billboards across Italy.

The startling and disturbing images are part of a campaign to raise awareness about the dangers of going on hunger strike. She's been on one since she was 12. The campaign, shot by Oliviero Toscani who has shocked the world before with his provocative campaigns for Benetton, is supported by the fashion industry in Italy and has been mounted to coincide with Milan fashion week. The industry has become worried, and for good reason, that they are inadvertently promoting body hatred in girls and women.

My colleagues are concerned that the Toscani pictures will be aspirational. They are certainly correct that visual culture is reconstructing our relationship to the body. We can't but help look at ourselves from the outside to see whether our bodies sufficiently reflect an acceptable version of the 5,000 digitally enhanced images that are beamed at us per week. This is particularly the case for girls and young women and my colleagues worry that girls, perhaps those who are already hooked into the proAna sites will chase the elusive dream to fit in through acquiring a diminished body.

If visual culture can invoke a feeling that we need to be thin, perhaps the pictures of Isabelle Caro will become glamorised in such a way that they invite us to mimic her. It's possible but I doubt it. I think we are not yet inured to the horror they portray. We can still see them. It takes more than one or two images to change our visual landscape and I think they will become a rallying point for campaigners against the body hatred which eats into so many of our children's childhoods, adolescence and young adulthood.

We need to address the problem visually because it has in large part created visually. Yes, eating problems start in the home, sometimes unwittingly passed on by mums and siblings who have body anxieties of their own which in turn owe much to the ubiquity of art-directed visual culture. Yes, anorexia and the starvation that goes with it have to be addressed emotionally and sometimes medically, but if we fail to challenge worship of just one body type, we will miss an important dimension to transform the problem.

Bodies today are rarely where we live from. They become our production. Our personal statement about who we are. We work on them. We spend a fortune on them. We decorate, transform and manipulate them. Cosmetic surgery is worth $14bn this year, and expected to increase by a $1bn for next. The number of girls and women (and increasingly men) who suffer with severe eating and body difficulties, sometimes obvious like bulimia and obesity, sometimes hidden in bulimia or binge eating, is rising and reaching into earlier and earlier age groups.

We do need to campaign. And at the visual level - which is where this campaign is located. Shocking images are one way, pictures of women of different sizes, as in the Dove campaign, and the deconstructing of the beauty industry through videos are others. We need the best our art directors can do to democratise our visual field so that all of our beauty and variety is included. We need to face the public health emergency that is body hatred (in all its manifestations from obesity to anorexia) and transform the role of visual culture so that it becomes part of the solution and not the problem."
UPDATE:
One of the comments on this blog post was made by OhYeahBabe, and it is an excellent comment. I was remiss in not pointing this out in my blog post.
Here is OhYeahBabe's comment:
"People need to understand that you don't have to look like Isabelle Caro to be anorexic. I think that's a significant point of confusion for people who want to stick to Kimkins because they think they are not anorexic yet."
So right you are, OhYeahBabe. Thanks so much for taking the time to point that out. Kudos to you!

KIMKINS MEMBERS: HERE'S WHY YOU'RE LOSING YOUR HAIR...

It has been well-documented that people following a vLCD (very low calorie diet) suffer from sudden hair loss, and the Kimkins starvation diet is no exception.

Here is a post from yesterday from the Kimpound:

"Help with hair loss!!

Where can I find info on hair loss? From what I understand it could be normal, but I am starting to get nervous. I am still losing quite a bit of hair. Have been for about 2 months. I was really bad about taking my multi-vitamin for the first few months, but am now taking it regularly. I know there have been some things on here about it, but am not great with computers and visit very little. People are starting to ask me why my hair is so thin. I am 29 with no health issues. Hoping it is just from losing 50 lbs. I haven't really noticed any neww hair growth."

This member of Kimkins was then provided with various solutions to her hair-loss problem:

"I would like to add my two cents. When I started again in October as quickly as the weight was coming off so was I losing my hair. It was coming out by the handfuls, like when I was going through chemo. It was a very distressing time but the funny thing is that when I increased the suppliments that I was taking My hair is no longer doing that. I am so glad that my hair is now thickening up again. My husband is wondering what I am doing because his hair is thinning. LOL I was told drastic changes to your body and your body reacts! It is that simple!!! But with all that to say , if you have a concern go to a professional to rule out any underlying issues".

And then SingingLass chimes in and addresses her bald spots which were evident during her recent stint on The Morning Show with Mike and Juliet:

"Hi everyone. Hair loss unfortunately is a common side-affect that happens with any kind of weight loss. Some of us just have that kind of reaction to any kind of stress or change to our bodies---I know a lot of women who have complained of major hair fall-out after pregnancies, stressfull break-ups, illnesses etc....I myself have been prone to it...the very first time was when I originally did atkins for a while back in 2001. I also have had fall-out from high stress, and then again after my pro-longed illness. Its a little distressing to me because I have a thing with long hair....but I figured my health comes first, and that the hair will fill back in. I have shortened it a bit---it used to be almost long enough to sit on.

I actually have not had any fall-out for several months now. Most of what I did lose was about a year ago while I was still on atkins, and that very well could have partially been due to illness recovery as well. I have had some brief periods where I would see more coming out in my brush and shower...but it has always passed. I now have A LOT of new growth...I have this puff of thickness around my neck due to having a lot of hair in the 3 inch- 6 inch length underneath...basically it is the regrowth of the hair I initially lost. Something to keep in mind that is encouraging...is the whole reason we lose the hair is simply because the hair growth cycle is sped up/ interupted....and is pushed out by a new hair coming in. Its not like the hair is falling out for good---it is being replaced. My stylist has like-wise said it is something she sees happen a lot with people who are losing weight. Right now I am letting the new-growth come in for a few more months to thicken it up a little, then think I will get a shorter more trendy cut and let it all grow back out to a longer length again.

Contrary to what some people said after seeing the M&J taping...i do NOT have any bald spots, lol. The lighting and angle just were hitting my head in a funny way. I had two top sections of hair clipped back ( common way i have worn it for years to keep it out of my face) and my part branches off a little into a " y" shape at my bangs...and it was that spot in my part I think they were obsessing over, lol. Nope, sorry. The loss I have experienced has just been general all-over and not a targeted area. I have lots of whispies and new growth, but i still get frequent compliments on my hair despite all of this.

I think part of what has helped the last few months is that i switched to a women's vitamin---made by Nature's Made, and also have been taking biotin. Oddly enough, i tried several of the expensive shampoos that did not seem to help...but what did, and I got this tip off of the "other site" while I was still on atkins...is the tresseme ( spelling?) anti-breakage. Its funny because that stuff is inexpensive, but every time i start to get fall out and use it it stops it. I now use the shampoo every day, but a different regular conditioner I like, and am seeing good results. Its worth a shot at least....that stuff only costs like $3 for a huge bottle. So, even though people like to try to say this is a big draw-back to this diet plan, it really is common place...and you can see that by looking at other weight loss boards and their threads on this very issue. The opposers just like to try to skim over-that because this is one of their only negatives they have to go with. I saw many many threads on it from people doing atkins and other plans long before I ever even heard of kimkins.

Its not fun, but it comes back."

And another Kimkins member reports her hair loss:

"Hi -- here's an update for me.

I saw my doctor last month because of symptoms I was having that we were almost sure were thyroid -- hair loss, slow hair regrowth on my legs (not necessarily a bad thing!), brain fog, feeling cold all the time, etc. My blood work came back fine -- especially the thyroid tests. The doctor suspects anemia, as my levels for that were on the lower side, and since I was already taking multivitamins with iron AND began a low iron supplement two weeks before having the bloodwork done, the levels should've been higher than they were. Anemia can cause hair loss as well as the other symptoms. He also suspects that the rapid weight loss may have contributed to the hair loss, but had nothing to do with anemia.

I've been faithful with my supplements, specifically taking a multivitamin product that is high in Biotin called "Hair, Skin, & Nails" as well as using Nioxin 4 -- which is for visibly thinning hair. I've seen quite a bit of regrowth, and although still thinner than before, my hair has definately improved.

I had taken a break from Kimkins, but was eating like South Beach, and I have maintained my losses, fluctuating only a few pounds back & forth. I'm glad I took that break because I feel like it gave my body a chance to catch up to the loss -- in fact, I still lost a size after I went on maintenance because I think my fat cells were shrinking and my skin was toning up. I especially noticed loose skin in my neck, and that has been tightening up.

Now that I'm done freaking out about my hair, I'm going to go back to a Kimkins way of eating to get the rest of these pounds off.

Blessings and peace,
[USERNAME REMOVED]"

And another member chimes in:

"Hi [USERNAME REMOVED] - I did the same thing while my hair was going thru the worst part of falling out. I decided to maintain until I saw improvements.

In addition to maintaining, I also take a mutli-vitamin, biotin, and omega-3 fish oil capsules.

Seems like the worst is over. Although I am still losing hair, its not as much as it was. So I am not doing maintance anymore and I am ready to lose the rest of my weight.

I know I will continue to loss some more for awhile but knowing that its growing back gives me some comfort. I will watch it closely so it doesnt happen again. I am keeping my calories and fat a bit higher then before and my carbs still under 20. I do that by adding in healthy fats and some walnuts, cheese, etc." (all bolding mine)

Ladies, ladies, ladies...the reason your hair is falling out is because you're not taking in enough calories and fat.

Dr. Michael Eades explains your hair loss:

"You are experiencing a common problem called telogen effluvium, which is the medical term for acute hair loss due to a metabolic, hormonal or drug stress." (*see below for link)

Both Deni and Christin had severe hair loss when they followed Kimkins. See their comments in my blog post here:

And here are some more links addressing the problem you're experiencing with sudden and massive hair loss by following a starvation diet:

Experiencing sudden hair loss is a frightening thing. But losing your hair is nothing compared to what will eventually befall you by following the deadly Kimkins starvation diet.

As I understand it, your hair keeps growing when you're six feet under, but a lot of good it does you then.

SOMEONE'S NOT VERY HAPPY !!!

I am in receipt of another Anonymous comment on my blog post, WHO IS THE AUTHOR OF THIS MESSAGE? JANE DOE? HEIDI DIAZ?

And it smells like KIMMER to me:

"Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "WHO IS THE AUTHOR OF THIS MESSAGE? JANE DOE? HEI...":

You guys are idiots. Do you really think Kimmer has time to follow each anti-kimmer site and respond? You ladies need to get lives. I am leaving Kimkins...well not leaving, but at least not posting much anymore, what you have done here will probably set me back a bit, but will not defeat me. Again, I am under the care of a physician and I will listen to her before I ever listen to a bunch of busybodies, it is ashame that [NAME REMOVED] has taken this additional step, it is ashame that we can not even trust the people we call sisters on that site. The site itself will never go away, there are thousands of very happy people there, it will live on forever.

I've lost 18lbs in two months, please explain how that means I'm starving to death...what idiots. Now I need to figure a few things out, contact a lawyer and see what I can do to you about using my personal thoughts from a private site to sue you.

Oh and about the 'diet police' you know the authorities you have contacted...I wait with baited breath to see them knocking on my door to haul me away to jail for dieting...what idiots."

Heidi, it's "bated" breath. Good try, though!

ON THE PRECIPICE: JANE DOE'S JOURNAL

I have been provided with a copy of JANE DOE'S JOURNAL at Kimkins, the most recent entry being made by her on January 11, 2008. As well, screen shots have been made of her entire Journal.

There are many disturbing entries in JANE DOE'S JOURNAL and because some are of a personal nature, I will not be posting her journal on my blog. Suffice it to say, JANE DOE is in peril, teetering on the precipice.

I did receive this interesting comment from Anonymous today on one of my previous blog posts, FROM MY MOLE INSIDE THE KIMPOUND: KIMMER RESPONDS... :

"Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "FROM MY MOLE INSIDE THE KIMPOUND: KIMMER RESPONDS...":

whatever problems you have with the kimkins diet did you have to do this to them (JANe DOE). I myself have recently started the kimkins diet after seeing the mike and julie show after seeing all the negative affects posted on these websites. However I am over 18 I can by cigarettes if i wanted to and the are pretty darn sure to cause cancer and probably kill me. MY point is an adult has the option to decide what choices they want to make. I read jane doe's post after you humiliated her here.she is so down and depressed at your invasion it had me in tears . This is a problem she has always had and instead of you keeping your battle with heidi you broke down a woman who wasnt whole to start with but was managing small battls with her own demons. If you feel heidie manipulated you fine gloves off go on with you own personal battle. But there is so much information avaiable on the kimkins diet we grown women and men are going in with our eyes wide open. Its not illegal to go on a diet. is it? Stop trying to persucute the women on his site. and play fair they havent done anything but execute there persute of happiness as deranged a choice YOU MAY THINK THEY HAVE MADE it is still there choice to make. This is america right.........................................Why not think about what your doing.sometimes it is more dangerous then what you are trying to stop. besides I never heard of someone trying to ter down the ones they are trying to call the victims. HELP WANTED !!! A RALLYING CALL TO TAKE DOWN KIMKINS...NOW !!!

The wheels of justice are turning slowly, too slowly for my liking. Something must be done NOW...and by "NOW" I mean yesterday...to bring down Heidi Diaz/Kimmer and her evil empire, Kimkins.

BamaGal made this remarkable post yesterday on LCF. It is a clarion call for help from you all...

"I do not want to step on anyones toes here....BUT

Time to squash everything and move on.

As we know from reading the court papers Heidi is still having people sign up. The only way to guarantee the closing of the site is through the federal channels. Even WHEN Heidi loses the class action lawsuit---she can still run the site and sign up more unsuspecting people.

How about we ALL get involved here---here are some really good ways:

Contact the Federal Trade Commission
Federal Trade Commission - Offices and Bureaus
The FTC enters Internet, telemarketing, identity theft and other fraud-related complaints into Consumer Sentinel®, a secure, online database available to hundreds of civil and criminal law enforcement agencies worldwide

Internet Crime Complaint Center
Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3)
The IC3 is co-sponsored by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the National White Collar Crime Center (NW3C)

IC3's mission is to serve as a vehicle to receive, develop, and refer criminal complaints regarding the rapidly expanding arena of cyber crime. The IC3 gives the victims of cyber crime a convenient and easy-to-use reporting mechanism that alerts authorities of suspected criminal or civil violations. For law enforcement and regulatory agencies at the federal, state, local and international level, IC3 provides a central referral mechanism for complaints involving Internet related crimes.

it does not take much of your time to file this report--it is very easily done
in my opinion---this is the most important thing we can do right now---

Contact your states Attorney General
FindLaw: State Resources: Attorneys General

another very simple thing to do---since this is the internet---each state should be involved not just CA

National Association of Attorney General's Computer Crime Point of Contact List (all state-related cyber questions)

National Consumers League’s Fraud Center
Use this form to report suspected telemarketing or Internet fraud.
Online Fraud Report Form

all of these next ones require very little time and effort---

WHY THE SAM HILL NOT????

no offense ladies and gents---but the time spent he say she say back and forth could be better put to use

no, I am no discounting anyones feelings, nor do I wish to ruffle any feathers---I just want to see some action being done instead of just paying lip service to bringing Heidi and her minions to justice....

Don't be an arm chair quarterback--actually get into the game....

And this in response from the indefatigable WildAngel6 on LCF:

"Awesome Post, Bama! Thank you for helping us bring things back into focus.

Remember folks, that even the unintentional diversions that come along from time to time are only helping Heidi by distracting us. Let's keep our eye on our goals here. Yes, we have come along way with seeing the Lawsuit becoming a reality, but we aren't done yet!

You DO still want to see the 404 Page Not Found error message when you type in Kimkins.com, don't you?

If so, we've still got plenty of work to do. So, let's roll up our sleeves and get to it!

Take a look at the list that BamaGal just posted. Start at the top and work down, start at the bottom and work up, or just pick what looks easiest to you to do first, but DO something on that list today. And then do something tomorrow and the next day and so on. There is still so much to be done.

After you have done it, talk to two like minded friends and encourage them to do it as well. The more of us that file reports, the more quickly things will happen. Remember, it IS the squeaky wheel that gets the grease.

If it has been a while since you contacted the Attorney General for instance, please feel free to send them a follow up email asking for a progress report.

Don't be shy about this. We can't afford to be. The longer we are silent, the more people that get sucked into this scam, the more likely they are to develop eating disorders, the more likely that the story that Medusa shared with us will become reality for more people over at Kimkins.

Don't rely on everyone else to file the reports. Don't think that your voice doesn't count. If everyone felt that way, nothing would get done. Your voice DOES count. So please step up and make yourself heard.

Imagine if it were your daughter (or sister, or mother, or niece, or cousin, or best friend) who was the next person to sign up for Kimkins, and they didn't know about it being dangerous because you didn't report it.

If you were moved by the recent posts on Medusa's blog, imagine if it was someone in your family being discussed there. How would that make you feel?

I have a 15 year old daughter who is "watching her weight" like many of her friends in high school. I am fighting this fight for her, and for every other daughter who may be tempted to go to the extremes of Kimkins. I don't want to hear about any more people who have been hurt by Kimkins. I want to do what I can to help spread the word, to warn people about the dangers of the Kimkins Diet.

I never followed the Kimkins Diet. I never joined the Kimkins.com site. I can't join the Kimkins Class Action Lawsuit. But I can make myself heard.

I can speak up for the victims. I can alert the proper authorities. I can tell others about it. I can encourage you to do the same.

Don't discount your power to effect change.

We CAN make a difference: One IC3 report at a time; One letter to the Attorney General at a time; One Complaint Form at a time.

Please make yourself heard."

And this in response to WildAngel6 from MomToEli on LCF:

"This is so exactly right!

This one is from my dh: One caution, though ... be sure when you submit a report that is designed for victims that you ARE one, and just knowing about her doesn't qualify. We don't want the legitimate victims to get drowned out and shoved aside because they get covered up with reports from non-victims.

That said, there that leaves LOTS of places for concerned citizens ... especially the AG office of your state. They are responsible to look out for the welfare of the citizens of their states, so they ARE interested."

PLEASE, I urge everyone reading this blog post to step up to the plate and contact these agencies and offices.

JANE DOE'S SHOCKING DAILY FOOD CONSUMPTION...

Like many dieters, the starving woman at Kimkins, makes entries in her online Fitday, noting what foods she has eaten that day.

Fitday tracks your daily food intake and provides a breakdown on calories, carbohydrates, fats, proteins, etc.

Below are a list of links to the shocking daily entries of this woman. Please note that I have changed her username at Kimkins, which appeared on all her Fitday entries, to Jane Doe.

When you click on these links, a pop-up box will ask you whether you wish to "Open" or "Save" the file. Please click "Open," and after viewing the page, click on your browser's Back button to return to this post to view further entries.

FROM MY MOLE INSIDE THE KIMPOUND: KIMMER RESPONDS TO THE STARVING WOMAN...

Greta Garbo as Mata Hari

I have the great fortune of having the most intrepid mole any politician, reporter, or blogger could ask for.

I just received this dispatch from my mole, who is deep inside the Kimpound, regarding the Kimkins member who is starving.

NOTE:

To protect the identity of the starving woman, I have replaced her username with "JANE DOE." I can confirm that she is 42 years of age.

My mole also reports on another woman going down that deadly Kimkins starvation path and I have replaced her username with "BETTY SMITH."

All who commented on posts by JANE DOE and BETTY SMITH have had their Kimkins usernames removed...everyone, that is, except Heidi Diaz/Kimmer.

Comments made by my mole are in GREEN and in a larger font.

And all of Kimmer's responses are in BLUE.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
THE DISPATCH
JANE DOE:
Ok, Now I know something is wrong. Last night was the most difficult night I've ever had on Kimkins...I was starving and it was all mental so it was especially difficult. I held it together and went to be especially early in order to sleep through the thoughts of different foods.
I survived.
Jumped on the scale this morning and I am still 246. Yesterday I was saying it must be my scale, but when I got on the scale in the gym it read 242...the same number as a week ago. I got out the tape measure and it read 46.5", ok, that is a solid 46.5 for the first time...that's good, I'm still slimming there.
How is it possible that I am losing inches and not losing weight. I know the answer I am in the shrinking phase. HOWEVER, this is very frustrating. Today is day 26 cheat free. 26 days of being VERY VERY VERY good...not cheating once and I've only lost 18lbs...WTH. I'm angry.
Ok, I am entering day 2 of shakes only...I hate this. It's not that I can't do it, but I knew this was going to be very difficult for me. I've never done well on just fluids...never. Something in my mind tells me loud and clear that nobody should have to go to all liquids to lose weight...it is a difficult message to fight. There are many medically sponsored diets that are all liquid...so we know they are safe, that is not my problem, it is that...if I'm exercising I should not have to diet and if I'm dieting I should not have to exercise thing going on...so when I'm exercising and following a diet to the letter and still not seeing the scale go down it is very difficult for me to wrap my mind around.
Understand, this has happened EVERYTIME I've dieted. This has nothing at all to do with this woe. It happened on Atkins, on South Beach, on WW, on every diet I've ever done. It is not that I can't diet, it is that I get to this place where my body defeats me. I can't let that happen this time. I want to see what is on the other side of this...ride it out to it's end...but how long will it continue? How long will it take for me to feel good about what I'm doing...to realize victory.
Victory...2 full sizes gone. Rings fitting like they should, breast smaller, face looking thinner, longer, I'm feeling lighter when I walk, people are noticing...
Victory...26 days cheat free, one body roll gone, my hands are looking smaller, I've purged my closet and shopped in the 'normal sizes'
But for me victory will be seeing the scale go down, for in the end that is the goal.
I need just one lb. I see everybody else dropping weight, I'm in every challenge I can jump in, I am exercising and being supportive, I just can't understand why I can't have the same results...I should be at aleast 30lbs down by now...why has the good Lord denied me that extra 12lbs?
Ok, enough of this feeling sorry for myself for now. I just needed to get it out. It is not 4:53AM I am going to jump on the treadmill this morning and am going to do double duty this afternoon with weights AND a run. My fitday shows me that my activity far out plays my intake...that is that I'm burning far more than I am taking in. Traditional thought would say that I should be dropping weight like crazy...mabye when my body finishes shrinking the scale will start moving...shrink away body, shrink away.
I expect to be at size 14 by 230 at this rate (I usually hit a 14 at 225 but we will see). I'm not sure how to set goals now...I have 4 days (including today) to lose SOMETHING for Kimmers mini-challenge...what if I'm still 246 on the 11th...do I stop participating in mini-challenges...I hate to lose but I am losing left and right here...in every challenge I accept...when does that start working against me?
I am entering that self-loathing stage...that sad deeply depressed stage that I always go through. I don't want to show this on the site, I want to run and hide, but this time instead of running from it I think I should face it and work through it.
I am still eating clean, my stomach feels bloated this morning because when I got up I drank 67.6 oz of Diet Lipton White Tea...not only was I hungry but I was thirsty...so now I'm dragging and I dont want to try on any clothing for fear that I am now bloated. Not to mention TOM is on it way...darn.
5:16AM Still not on the treadmill...I don't think I'm doing it this morning...my stomach feels like it is going to burst. I just tried on 8 pairs of size 16 slacks...not one fit...all way to small. I am chalking up my size 16s that I am wearing as vanity sizing...that is size 18 slacks with a size 16 tag. There are simply too many that don't fit for me to think I am a size 16...so I change what I previously posted and state I am not down 2 sizes just one. 18s are roomy, but the majority of 16s don't fit. So I still can shop in the normal sizes...I just have to go for the largest size in that category.
JANE DOE"
[NAME REMOVED]: JANE DOE After reading what you posted it broke me heart. I feel your frustration. I have been there but I was weak and gave in to "whatever" You though are strong. I wish there were some words of wisdom I could offer except I am here. I wish I could tell you the numbers don't mean anything but I know they are important, to me too. Continue to push forward. Don't look back not even a peek over your shoulder. I know as we age our bodies react differently. You are doing the right thiings. You are feeling healthy. Wish I could make the numbers change for you. (((hugs)))
[NAME REMOVED]: JANE DOE- Honey I am so feeling for you. I know excatly what you are going through. Don't beat your self up. You are on the right track. I promise. I was also not losing(remember just a week ago) after the dr and all the meds and crap he told me When i called him to slow do on my work outs. He did not say quit but he said that sometimes we have to trick our bodies. If they think they have won the start working to burn fat again. I don't know it if will work for you but I was working our for at least 1 hour and sometimes 2 I cut that back to abour 45 minutes and I have lost 3 pounds. Just a thought. I am here for you and so are all these other great people. Keep your head high and just keep going. IT WILL COME OFF.
[NAME REMOVED]: JANE DOE~ Bless your heart..I too can feel your frustration. I dont have any answers for you other than stick with it....you know something HAS to happen after a while...it just has to.... make this a challenge against your own body... and YOU will win...
Kimmer: JANE DOE - Love those "squat" tips! Now that's something even I could/would do (especially with all these potty breaks!) And that chalkboard avatar! Too precious!!! I'm thinking it might be a good idea to call your doctor. Make sure you don't have an obstruction blocking anything. Liver panel might be a good idea (ignore me, I'm not a doctor). There has to be a reason for no loss if your calories are lower plus exercise. You're not using SF syrups, right? Puzzling? NO SELF LOATHING! Negative tapes playing in your head don't help ... they hurt. You're smart, you know that. If you're going down in sizes, then the scale will eventually catch up. You can't weigh 246 at size 10.
[NAME REMOVED]: JANE DOE, try & look at the big picture. You HAVE lost 18 pounds in 26 days. That's over a half pound a day average! That's quite a major accomplishment. Just keep moving forward. The scale will act right before you know it!
JANE DOE'S next post is giving an exercise tip …
[NAME REMOVED]: JANE DOE - perhaps instead of doing all shakes, you may want to supplement with some protein. When I do shakes, I usally have just a shake and an energy drink in the morning, a shake for lunch with some tuna, salmon, nuts, etc., and the same for dinner. I think that just straight shakes is extremely difficult. Having some protein may take the 'edge' off. My scale actually went up since Sunday night, but I can feel and see in my stomach that it is getting a little slimmer. I am holding out for a 'whoosh' by Thursday or Friday.
JANE DOE'S next post:
Hi guys...I just got back from the track
I DID IT!!! I DID IT!!! I DID IT!!!! I RAN A 10 MINUTE MILE....
My second mile was 12 minutes...my knee started to hurt like *&^% so I stopped. But I did it...I could have done three miles in 30 minutes if not for this dang knee!
1st I went to the gym and did that crunch machine I told you about yesterday...I could only do 23 crunches again...funny number, but I really could not do another one. I got up and went to the track...I was running like my life depended on it...OMG it was so much fun! I lapped two people, both younger than me and one I lapped twice!
After the 2 miles I went back to the gym and did upper body exercises. There is one exercise I took from The Biggest Loser, you take a free weight (I use 15lbs) and do toe touches with it, when you come to the standing position you raise the weight over your head, completely extending your arm...this is one fluid motion, to the toe and then smoothly lift the weight over your head...I do 15 on each side....will work that up to 50...yeah right...by the end of the year...lol.
So I am going to take one exercise from The Biggest Loser each week and work it into my personal workout. I noticed that the ones they show are mainly exercises we can do at home...or in our gym...Just make sure you keep the right form, anybody in your gym should be able to guide you if you are not sure.
[NAME REMOVED] - I am going to stick with the protein shakes. I only had one yesterday, the chocolate one, it has 6 carbs so I just assumed the vanilla had 6 also...but the vanilla has 4 so I can have one shake in the AM and one in the PM and still stay at 10 or under in carbs...it gives me that second can, which I really need mentally. Switching any part of my diet is going to send me into that mental tug of war. it is all mental...I just have to find ways to work through it...like actually talking about it, thanks for all the feedback guys...it really helped.
[NAME REMOVED] - where are you? How is the shake challenge going...I will be over to your journal to visit today.
[NAME REMOVED] - sorry you are having such problems with your home, 5200 to fix that problem sounds right though. Good luck, thanks for the encouragement today...it really helped.
Well, I found myself walking with a little bit of a swagger today coming from the gym...I felt that good. Nobody can tell me I'm not getting smaller, this blouse I am wearing is just sort of hanging there, no HUGE tummy. I like what I see...
Ok, I should get some work done now...
JANE DOE again … signs of trouble?
Does anybody know a carb friendly way of getting in more salt? My fingers were swollen by the end of my run which is a sign of electrolyte imbalance. Drinking water but not taking in enough salt causes the water to leak out of blood vessels and soak into the extremeties.
I would usually use a sport drink but they are not carb friendly...Kimmer what you do you suggest?
Thanks
JANE DOE
Let’s see … so far one recommendation of pop ….
Ah … the Kimmer speaks:
Do you mean only salt or the electrolytes lost in sweat? I'm not an electrolyte expert and I think messing with double or more doses of anything is not good (electrolytes are what keep our heart running smoothly).
Here's a dab of info (thought you might find the electrolyte info on the cycling site good):
Gatorade, 8 oz:
Sodium: 110 mg
Potassium: 30 mg
Calories: 50
Protein: 0
Carbs: 14
Lettuce Rollup, 1:
Sodium: 253 mg
Potassum: 198 mg
Vitamin K: 95%
Calories: 43
Protein: 3
Carbs: 2
Table salt, 1/8 tsp:
Sodium: 290 mg
Lettuce Rollup (1):
1 romaine leaf
1/2 cup baby spinach raw
1/4 Roma tomato chopped
1/2 slice extra lean ham
1 tsp light mayo
Interesting Info on Electrolytes: http://www.ultracycling.com/nutrition/electrolytes.html
Have you checked out products like www.crampnomore.com? Don't know anything about them, but I've heard it's no carb/no cal.
then another voice suggests low carb Gatorade type drink from GNC …
[NAME REMOVED]: JANE DOE: Girlfriend, with those intense workouts, you rock!!! You are going to be good and toned, you are amazing, you got me up in the mornings to workout!! Thanks!
more folks giving pats on the back for the workout …
Wow … here’s someone all excited they are at 694 cals for the day …
[NAME REMOVED]: Thanks JANE DOE and [NAME REMOVED] for your support It's good to not feel like the only one who feels this way. JANE DOE, you were writing about your frustration with not losing.. you are exercising your face off, eating on program... and you are frustrated that the scale is not moving..
here's the thing... I think your body needs time to catch up with all you've done... you are putting it through it's paces and thats a good thing, but I'm thinking that you will see a whoosh when you are caught up. Are you drinking lots of water? 8 glasses a day plus a glass for every 25 pounds you are overweight is the guide I read that made good sense to me.. Perhaps talking with a pharmacist would give you some ideas on which electrolyte replacement is best for you ? Are you sure the swelling in the hands is from the electrolytes and not from anything else? Have you had this before? or has it just started now that you are exercising? Could it be dependant edema from running etc with hands down? There are some rehydration drinks on the market, I am not sure what the potassium/sodium levels are in them... but perhaps just upping your water intake when you exercise would be enough? (assuming your kidneys are normal functioning ones? )
I think you are doing swell, and muscle does weigh more than fat.. so the weight loss not showing up makes sense to me.. because you are becoming more fit... the good news is , is that once you are more muscular, more fit.. you will be that much more efficient at burning calories.. so it's a win win situation...
i also feel that we place alot of importance on the scale... alot... and I think it's more how we feel that should be what we strive for.. a healthy efficient body... with great _meta_bolism, and low bmi and the number on the scale... well i set my goal for 160.. i'm 5 5 and if I am at 180 but am muscle and lean, i would be ok with that... at this point I have not been exercising.. but plan to start. YOU my dear, are my new hero.
JANE DOE again:
248.5 - This is a combination of weight training and TOM (not quite here yet so I'm in the bloaty stage). There is nothing else that could account for this number this morning. When we weight train our bodies wrap our muscles in protective liquid to guard against us harming them further, it usually takes about 3 days for that to dissipate so I'm stuck with it for a while. I actually debated about starting weight training so close to a weigh-in but I just love those weights...I'm hooked now.
Anticipating that I would not be able to make it through another night of just shakes, I took a sleeping pill when I got home last night (5PM) and was sound asleep by 9 so I did not get to watch the end of The Biggest Loser. I forced my eyes to say open just long enough to see the exercise I am taking from the show. I will add it into my routine today. It is a version of an exercise called Superman, very effective core exercise.
Kimmer - Yes, I mean electrolytes - I've used pure table salt in the past. Thanks for the info I'm heading off to read it in a little while.
[NAME REMOVED] - I'm glad I can inspire you to get moving, you will be very happy when you get to gal that you are not what I like to refer to as a fat skinny person. Do what you can now and it will pay off tenfold down the line!
[NAME REMOVED] - Words of wisdom. I'm really not a water drinker - I don't think you will find many (if any) posts where I stated I drank water...for all the studies that say it is necessary, there are those who say it is not...I favor on the side of not. As far as dependant edema from running that is the same problem everybody is talking about, it is usually caused by a salt imbalance in the body. I think I will try the electrolyte caps or the Glaceau Smart Water that dakota_style_ PMd me about it has no calories and no carbs (probably the way I will go because it not only address the electrolyte problem but the dehydration problem also) I will stop at the mall tonight to find some, if not I will order it online. I’ve had this problem since I was in my 30s I guess I’ve never been hydrated properly…lol.
[NAME REMOVED] – I really can’t tell you where you should start on your machine. I really have no idea what your endurance level is nor do I know how physically fit you are. The best thing I can tell you is to get on and move! Which machine did you get? Does it have different exercise programs? I would start with weight loss, but play around with it. Personally I like to hit the weight loss function and then I increase the resistance as far as I can. I would also suggest to add in a few backwards pedals…it makes the workout much more difficult and targets the glutes.
JANE DOE
[NAME REMOVED]: JANE DOE, when I lost the 20 pounds back in August I was exercising alot and doing everything to a T. The 1 month mark was almost up and I was only down 14 pounds, then right at the 1 month mark I lost that 6 pounds. I think your waiting for your whoosh. I was reading one of the forum posts and they were talking about people stop losing at some point and think it's not working hence stop dieting and yo-yo dieting starts. (I am not suggesting you are yo-yo dieting just telling you what was written) But what I'm trying to say is your losing the inches and your body is trying to hold onto that fat and it will get rid of it when your body says, OK let's not hold onto this anymore. If I did not read that I probably would of given up thinking the diet was not working for me. I feel for you cause I felt the same way back then. But you will see the scale moving.
JANE DOE then goes on a tirade about how fat does weigh less than muscle, rather muscle is more dense and one pound of muscle is more compact, yada yada yada … makes a good point, actually.
Kimmer speaks: JANE DOE - Hmmm, that scale IS going to cooperate! I may need to come back there and have a heart to heart talk with it! If you try any of those electrolyte supplements, let us know how they work for you (and taste).
"Muscle weighs more than fat" used to bug KimATC (certified trainer) and someone explained to me maybe they meant for the same volume ... 1 cup of muscle will weigh less than 1 cup of fat (blech, a cup of either one!!!) In the lastest issue of Oprah magazine, a Q & A asks if it's possible to lose fat cells, which I had always heard isn't possible. The expert, Dr. David Katz (does the health segments on Good Morning America) says it is. I'll repost that part of the article when I find it again. That was interesting to me, first I'd heard of it.
~~~~~~~~~~

Here’s another poster, BETTY SMITH who is eating like nothing … brother, SF Jello and maybe a shake later on …. so sad ….

BETTY SMITH was, in her words, starving today. And by the looks of it, she is! A shake for breakfast and one for lunch … and wanting to know if it’s okay to eat something else. JANE DOE asks her why she can’t eat more, but if she is doing the shake mini-challenge to have low sodium chicken broth …

Kimmer tells her: Make something! You don't want to be hungry, that's not fun or good psychologically. What about egg drop soup? Some snacky protein (my fave is extra lean sandwich ham with a dab of mustard).

[NAME REMOVED]: JANE DOE- sad to say that I can't finish the last 2 days of shakes with you, but I will continue to cheer you on.

BETTY SMITH is on a dangerous track …

The rest of my day seemed to go very well. so my acutal menu today was

b shake
l shake
snack little over half a small chicken breast
d I had chicken yes I did have a diet soda

I am so sore. the digging is done but one thing I learned today... NEVER DO THE SHAKE THING ON A VERY BUSY OR ACTIVE DAY!!

My hands were shaking and I was very light headed. I guess I won't be doing that again.

BETTY SMITH

END OF DISPATCH

Heidi, my impression from reading your responses to JANE DOE and BETTY SMITH leads me to believe that you find nothing abnormal in the fact that they are eating virtually nothing (i.e. starving) and ignoring the signs that they are both spiraling into the vortex of anorexia nervosa and pro-ana behavior.

Another deep concern is that the advice being given to these two women by some Kimkins members is disconcerting, to say the least. Telling these starving women to eat more is obviously not part of the Kimkins mantra or mindset.

I am truly at a loss for words.

Heidi, do you remember Dr. Jack Kevorkian? If not, look him up. I hear his old cell bunk is available.

And just a reminder...you have many watchers, some with real badges, inside the Kimpound right now.

And to my mole...thank you, thank you, thank you. I will be forever indebted to you.

URGENT !!! KIMKINS MEMBER NEEDS HELP !!!

Earlier today, I made this post:

KIMKINS & PRO-ANA / PRO-MIA: LA DANSE MACABRE

I've received many comments on this post, for which I am very grateful. Thank you to everyone who commented.

But one of the comments alarmed me. It's an Anonymous comment from a member of Kimkins who is very worried about another member there.

Here are all the comments:

"OhYeahBabe said...

Your post made me shudder, Medusa. That woman has got to be stopped! People can deny all they want that this is what the plan is like, but there's overwhelming evidence to the contrary. People who tweak Kimkins (and still call it Kimkins - a peeve of mine!) or people who think they'll just do it a short while are playing a really dangerous game. Once the eating disorder sets in, it's incredibly hard to back away. People who think they will just quickly get to goal and quit before they're dead are playing a really dangerous game. People who think Heidi Diaz can give them diet advice and not harm them are playing a really dangerous game.

Just a note to people who want to do it anyway - you need to understand that the weight will NOT stay off without extreme effort and even more eating disordered thinking. Read about the survivors who are seriously stuggling. You are not different, you just haven't been damaged yet. The damage can be potentially permanent and potentially lethal.

Considering the Kimkins diet? Read these first:

This has got to STOP! Help stop this woman before she hurts anyone else. Kimkins members may join the Kimkins lawsuit. Here is a video that explains how easy it is to join the Kimkins lawsuit. Very little will be required of you, and you may help STOP THIS WOMAN!

What a great post - a great reminder that Kimkins makes anorexic/bulemic behavior easier because you don't feel hungry. And let's not forget that with the boot camp option there is always a chance someone will end up with negative calories for the day. Scary, scary stuff.

A person who would put a diet out there that would help those with ED's perpetuate their ED's by making it easier is just pure evil. Plain and simple.

Unfortunately, this diet will never be eradicated from the internet, but Heidi Diaz MUST BE STOPPED!

Please, please, please, if you paid for a kimkins.com membership, sign up for the lawsuit. And if you haven't but are appalled anyway, help spread the word about the dangers of this diet.

I have a granddaughter with a feeding tube in her stomach because she can no longer take food by mouth. This is what anorexia does to the one who takes it too far. She has removed years from her life, maybe mine , too, with worry. People who encourage anorexia but w/o following their own advice have a serious hate on against people, young women in particular. Heidi can't hide behind the "they're adults and know what they're doing" theory any more. Anorexia kills rational thought, and ultimately its unswerving victims. Take her down!

BufoDieter, that's a critical point! Thank you! The lack of hunger makes it easier to not eat. Plus, Heidi tells people that the symptoms of starvation are a positive thing (SNATT, for one).

I get angrier about this every day.

I just wanted to say that I am a member of Kimkins, and one poster there is very very troubling to me. I know the LCF board has mentioned her, but it is getting scary to see how little she eats, and how much she exercises.

She won't listen to ANYONE else on the board to eat more, she tells us to mind our own biz. Not sure what else to do, but she is frightening me with this behavior. Any suggestions?

B.

Oh my goodness, Anonymous, that's a really HARD problem.What can you do if she won't listen? It's not like you can just call her mother, or set up an intervention. Or be near her so you can see how she reacts. It seems like you could easily drive her underground if you push too hard, but if you (as a group) don't get her attention she could die. It's alarming, for sure. I'm asking around for ideas. I'll post useful suggestions on my blog - http://www.kimorexia.blogspot.com.

Thanks SO much, OhYeahBabe, for posting suggestions for this Kimkins member on your blog, Kimorexia.

And to Anonymous, who left the comment about her granddaughter...my heart goes out to you. I can't imagine how difficult and heartbreaking it would be to see my loved one in such terrible straits. I hope your granddaughter gets well soon.

I would ask everyone who reads my blog to please go to the top of my front page. You will see on the right-hand side a WebRing entitled "Say No to Kimkins!"

Please click on "List" and visit each of the Anti-Kimkins blogs listed there. Please leave a comment on as many blog posts as you can for each blogger. It is the only way we're going to spread the word quickly about the dangers of the Kimkins starvation diet and its fraudulent founder, Heidi Diaz/Kimmer.

Together, we CAN make a difference. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

MY HEART BROKE...

...WHEN I SAW THIS PICTURE:

While many, I know, will be offended by my posting of this picture of this poor woman, I am heartbroken for her. How terrible her life must be.

The rising tide of obesity in North America is now of epidemic proportions, with many morbidly obese men, women, and children desperately seeking ways to lose weight.

As a result of their desperation, many of these individuals turned to the Kimkins diet because of its earlier advertised claims of “there is no faster diet out there! None!, ” "Better than WLS (Weight-Loss Surgery)," and its lately revised claims of "less fat than Atkins, less carbs than South Beach, and faster weight loss than Weight Watchers."

What many people do not realize is that even a morbidly obese individual can starve to death while following the Kimkins diet. How? Because the Kimkins diet is a VLCD [very low calorie diet (defined as being less than 1200 calories daily for women and 1500 calories for men)].

Heidi Diaz/Kimmer, however, consistently recommended only 500 calories or less per day to her members at the Kimkins website. That is starvation, pure and simple.

The risks involved in following such a VLCD diet can be catastrophic. Just some of those risks are as follows:

  1. gallbladder disease;
  2. slowing of one's metabolism, causing the brain & central nervous system to stop working optimally;
  3. the breaking down of muscle and other lean body tissue;
  4. an imbalance in minerals and electrolytes;
  5. osteoporosis;
  6. anemia;
  7. irregular or lack of menstruation;
  8. lack of serotonin, leading to clinical depression; and
  9. deterioration in the condition of hair and nails, and hair loss.
On VLCDs, your metabolism slows down to a crawl and your body goes into starvation mode, thus using very few calories. As a result, individuals find themselves eating next to nothing, yet not losing a pound.

    The Kimkins Exposed blogger wrote an excellent post on the Kimkins VLCD:

    "Kimkins Sells Potentially Deadly Very Low Calorie Diet

    July 31, 2007

    It’s exactly the message that resonates with millions of overweight and obese Americans: there is a diet that offers fast weight loss without gastric surgery, diet pills, special foods, exercise or supplements. The clincher is the claim that “there is no faster diet out there! None!”The carefully crafted message is tantalizing because it speaks to the yearning for instant gratification, a base natural desire in people.

    Consider the cunning words chosen by Kimmer to persuade visitors to her homepage her diet is better than all the rest:

    'Millions of overweight people think fast, permanent weight loss is
    completely out of their reach. They’ve been told their entire lives they should be happy with slow 1-2 lb a week weight loss. How depressing and untrue!

    What if I told you that you could lose weight at turbo speed? Experience natural appetite suppression? Would you be interested?

    Don’t worry! No awful prepackaged foods. Forget about diet pills or risky surgery. The plan I’m talking about is all natural with everyday food.

    It’s called Kimkins and was developed by me, Kimmer, in 2000 when I weighed a morbidly obese 318 pounds! In less than a year I lost 198 pounds and kept it off!

    Are you getting excited yet? You should be!'

    'Sure, there are other popular diets out there like Weight Watchers, Atkins, Nutrisystem, Jenny Craig and South Beach, but they only work up to a point before you quit in frustration with the slow weight loss and complicated rules. But not Kimkins! '

    'So what do you think? Are you ready to experience for yourself what Kimkins can do for you? Now it’s your chance to be a weight loss success story! '

    Persuasive!

    But, the big question is, is it true?

    Let’s first begin with the serious problems with her line of reasoning to influence visitors and encourage them to join the site.

    The underlying implication is that Kimkins is the best way to resolve what is one of our nation’s most serious health problems, obesity; faster than any other weight loss program.

    If this were true, there would be a persuasive arguement using supportive evidence and endorsements from healthcare professionals.

    The site and ‘Kimmer’ cite no supporting evidence, have no researchers or healthcare professionals to endorse her plan, and no one recommeding it as a healthful way to lose weight from within the medical or scientific community.

    In both the pages which are publicly available, and those accessible by logging in, she carefully avoids any reference to hundreds of scientific studies published during the last three decades; all of which contradict her position. She could not pull even a single useful quote supportive of her diet, so the use of research is completely avoided.

    Instead she relies on the trustfulness of those desperate to lose weight; she sets the stage for blind faith by not encouraging anyone to review evidence or to ask hard questions. In fact you will not be allowed to demand scientific evidence that her diet has merit or health benefit if you do join.

    Such questioning is simply not tolerated.The claims made should make anyone suspicious, even those who have barely scraped through high school biology. Kimmer goes well beyond that level and not only implies her experience overrides scientific data, but even asserts that her plan is suitable for anyone, including all diabetics. [Exceptions in the site disclaimer include pregnant and lactating women and those with impaired kidney function]

    Kimmer effectively shoves aside decades of published, controlled, randomized clinical trials comparing caloric intakes, macronutrient ratios, weight loss and risks associated with severe calorie restriction. Her justification for this omission is that she claims she culled out the ‘best of’ from Dr. Robert C. Atkins and Dr. Irwin Maxwell Stillman, both physicians and authors of popular diets.

    But that’s nothing but sheer nihilism. Good recommendations are based on science, they’re cautious and skeptical, not permanently fixed based on an ‘n of 1’ proposition that ignores the fact that there is considerable evidence against Kimkins-like very low calorie diets being followed by free-living medically unsupervised individuals.

    In fact, the evidence against using such an approach to losing weight is crushing in its abundance. By circumventing this mass of peer-reviewed literature readily open to public scrutiny in libraries and online, Kimmer insists you accept her personal experience, an experience which remains unverified.

    It’s her word and you’re expected to take it and swallow it as if it were fact.

    You are expected to accept without question the veracity of her statements, assertions or claims.

    You are expected to look the other way and not seek data in your decision.

    You are expected to buy into her claims and website with only your desire to believe that there is a diet that will work better than anything else out there today.

    Like any other ‘fast weight loss’ scam, it’s no different in the claims made, no different in the emotional buttons Kimmer tries to hit in you.

    But, unlike other diet plans sold to the overweight and obese, Kimkins comes with the added potential to maim or kill the unsuspecting and desperate who are ready to do anything to lose weight.

    Don’t fall for the clever, crafty message! You’re smarter than that!"

    Of course, we now know that Heidi Diaz/Kimmer did not lose 198 pounds in a year...in fact, she lost not one ounce of weight. She is a liar. Period.

    Remember, VLCDs, like Kimkins, are like playing with dynamite. Be wary of any diet claiming to be low calorie/low fat/low carb. You'll never reach your goal weight because you'll be pushing up daisies long before then.
