TOM SPANKS THE DUCKS...THEN BACKPEDALS !!! [AND THEN GETS SNARKY...SEE UPDATE!]

In what may have been a splash of misogyny and a spike in testosterone, Tom, owner of Netrition and Big Kahuna of Low Carb Friends (LCF), brings down the paddle on the posters on the Fascination with Kimmer thread at LCF...and then starts backpedaling!

It all started on April 28th, 2008, when he posted the following:

Why the fascination with Kimmer? #16

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Welcome to: Why the fascination with Kimmer? #16

As a reminder, please be respectful of dissenting views and please avoid personal insults of others - including the subject of these threads. Thank you. "

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, to put it mildly, I found that post just a tad unusual.
And then Tom posts this further admonishment on May 12, 2008:
Please try to stay on topic in this thread. Many members are complaining that they are interested in keeping up, but don't have time to read through all the chit chat. Use other threads for other topics. Thank you. "
And then, after being taken to task by LosingToLive, Tom does the big backpedal:
Yes, it’s important to stay on topic but we have all worked side by side for so long, it’s like a family reunion.
We understand what your’re saying, and we know that some people only have time for the "results". We are the ones that are bringing the "results", sometimes we get carried away with our hard work.
I for one will not clutter this thread with friendly talk; we don’t want this thread to disappear. I just don’t understand why things have changed.
I don't want people complaining to you while they are suffering. If they are having such a hard time with this thread, it must be pretty “traumatic for them to contact you. * I *(me) apologize. I’m not trying to be a jerk (sometimes it happens). I understand how someone wants "details only", but we are the ones that went out and *got those details*.
Tom, It is your board ,and we will abide by your rules. I wish I would have known that the rules change. WE have worked our butts off to get this info to the lawyers, etc. NO, we weren’t always on topic, but we kicked butt. Good job Ducks !
If I disappear, ask around and someone will be able to contact me.
Take care Ducks, you're work is important. Stand tall, and keep going. We only wished that someone would have dropped the “details” in our laps, instead *we worked for them*.
LL"
No rules changed. I simply reminded everyone to try to stay on topic for the benefit of everyone that would like to read the thread. That doesn't mean to only post "results". I understand that friendships are made and there will naturally be some posts unrelated to the topic, but I just ask you to consider whether some of the comments could be posted in other more appropriate forums or threads or in a PM.
It actually doesn't matter much to me since I don't read all the posts in these threads, but some people that would like to are simply unable to keep up because of the large volume of off-topic posts and have expressed some frustration.
How do the rest of you feel about it? Do you think it's insulting to ask everyone to try not to stray so far from the topic of the thread? "
~~~~~~~~~~

Well, Tom, you've taken a page out of Heidi's book. And guess what? It IS too late to take that back.

These posters are your bread and butter, lining your pockets with silver by purchasing from your company, Netrition.

It appears the damage is done, Tom, as there is much talk of a mass exodus from LCF because of the continual hand-slapping and admonishments by yourself and other admins.

UPDATE!

And in a fit of pique this afternoon (Tuesday, May 13/08), Tom next posts the following:

"Another complaint about this? You were simply reminded by an admin of the terms of service because of your post: "Every gal needs a little "sea man" in her life." That's all. We don't want posts like that here. "

"And we respect Dee's right to express her opinion especially since she was being talked about here. Do you feel she should be banned from the site because you don't agree with her - or would it make more sense to respectfully address her concerns as some others have done here. Instead you laughed and encouraged posts that tell her to not "let the door hit your A## on the way out." What type of reaction do you expect when people talk to you like that?"

AND THEN MAYBERRY RESPONDS:

"I didn't POST that Tom, I merely laughed in response to it. I don't have a problem with Dee posting her side of things. She has a right to express her side of the issue. As a matter of fact, I've had very few dealings with Dee. My problem is with the fact that lately we don't seem to be able to make any little off-color remark about Heidi. That's my issue!

Hey, it's your board and you can certainly run it as you see fit. I'm not someone who complains about other's posts. I've only complained about one person here and fortunately he chose to leave us on his own. I don't TRY to cause trouble, KWIM? "

AND AGAIN MAYBERRY RESPONDS:

"Tom, et al.,

If anyone was offended by that little joke, I honestly apologize. It was not intention to offend anyone (except for Heidi). It was simply meant to be a play on words.
"

Actually, Mayberry, I would have told Tom to...

NO MORE PICKLES & ICE CREAM FOR YOU!

Photo by Von Pip*

And the good news just keeps on comin' and comin'...........

Overconsumption of junk food by women who are nursing or pregnant can predispose their children to obesity.

Junk Food in Pregnancy Causes Overeating in Children
Reuters Aug 22, 2007

"LONDON—Children whose mothers eat junk food during pregnancy and breast-feeding are more likely to overeat, choose an unhealthy diet, and grow obese later in life, according to research using rats published on Aug. 15.

Previous studies have shown that children born to obese mothers are likely to be overweight, but the new findings are some of the first to look at what behaviors may be triggering unhealthy eating habits, the researchers said.

"It indicates there is a fetal programming for overeating," said Neil Stickland, a researcher at the Royal Veterinary College in London, who worked on the study.

"The fetuses are getting used to this junk food during gestation," he added in a telephone interview.

"It is not just genetics," he said. "We can show a direct link to what the mothers eat and how it affects the children."

In the study, published in the British Journal of Nutrition, researchers took two groups of pregnant rats and gave one a diet of junk food such as doughnuts, muffins, and sweets and fed the other nutritional pellets.

Surprisingly, Stickland said, there was no effect on birth weight. But when the young rats were weaned, the team found that the animals whose mothers ate junk food put on weight more quickly, had a taste for unhealthy food, and gorged, he added.

Studying rats has implications for humans because the mechanisms controlling appetite are similar in many species, Stickland said.

Obesity is a major issue worldwide and raises the risk of diseases such as type 2 diabetes and heart problems. The World Health Organization classifies around 400 million people as obese, including 20 million children under the age of five.

The study also attempts to better understand what drives appetite, a process controlled by brain centers that respond to signals telling us when we are hungry and when we are full.

The research indicated that the young rats may be overindulging because as they eat more, the "pleasure centers" in the brain stimulated by sugary foods need increased amounts of food to reach the same level of satisfaction.

"Exposure to a maternal junk food diet during their fetal and suckling life might help explain why some individuals might find it harder than others to control their junk food intake even when given access to healthier foods later in life," Stephanie Bayol, a researcher at the Royal Veterinary College, who led the study, said in a statement."

A PLEA TO NEW KIMKINS COVERGIRL, PATTI...(UPDATED)

Patti, I'm going to make this short and sweet.

By appearing on the main page of Kimkins as a "covergirl" for Kimmer/Heidi Diaz, an admitted liar and fraud, you are endorsing the deadly Kimkins starvation diet.

Photo of Heidi Diaz/Kimmer, in Nov. 2007 (at her deposition in the civil class-action lawsuit) confirming she had lied, once again, about losing any weight on her own deadly Kimkins starvation diet

Patti, I am asking that you read the following posts & watch the videos, and after doing same, reconsider allowing Kimmer to keep your picture on her website:

INSIDER EXCLUSIVE VIDEO ON THE KIMKINS DIET:

FOX-TV’s Morning Show with Mike and Juliet:

KVUE--Beware of Internet Diet Scam

UPDATE:
Patti, theTRUTH left a message for you in the comment section of this post. I have copied it here just in case you miss it:

"theTRUTH said...

Yes, Patti, please reconsider your public endorsement of this fraud. She is using your success as free advertising to further that fraud. You have the right to eat however you want to. It is your health and your body. However, allowing Heidi to use your images and personal story to make more money from more unsuspecting, desperate dieters who don't know the history and lies of Heidi (as you must), crosses the line of innocent victim of a scam artist, and ventures into the realm of enabler or even accomplice. The lawsuit is very real, and there are huge numbers of real people who have been and continue to be taken by this scam artist.

One more note. I saw in your bio that you lost a great deal using Atkins (a safe, sensible, controlled carb way of eating) but had problems keeping it off. You may want to reserve your public endorsement of kimkins until after you have had a chance to see if you can maintain the kimkins losses without developing a long term eating disorder. If you are eating the calorie levels suggested by Heidi's plan, your metabolism is likely damaged and you will find maintenance nearly impossible, and suffer who knows what other kinds of health problems. Others have been down this path before you, and it isn't pretty. Medusa is giving you a chance here to reach out and do some research before it is too late. Take that opportunity, for your own sake. You do not want to be associated with this woman.

NEWS FLASH !!! HUNGER HORMONE TRIGGERS OVEREATING...

So this is why pizza and burgers and all things fattening are so tempting and irresistible...

"Study: Hunger hormone works by making food look more appealing"

by HELEN BRANSWELL, The Canadian Press

"TORONTO — A hormone produced in the gut spurs people to eat more by making food look more appealing, new research reveals.

The study, by researchers with McGill University’s Montreal Neurological Institute, shows that the hormone, ghrelin, activates parts of the brain involved in sensations of pleasure or reward.

"Ghrelin is a gut signal — it’s the way the gut communicates with the brain to make you hungry," explained Dr. Alain Dagher, a neurologist who studies the workings of the brain in drug addiction.

"And how it does that is by increasing the rewarding nature of food cues, by making food pictures or food thoughts or food objects more attractive to you. And therefore increasing the probability that you will eat."

The system is probably an evolutionary holdover from the time when food was scarce and getting it came at a physical cost, Dagher suggested. In order to survive as a species, our ancestors had to view expending the energy to secure food as more compelling than the impulse to conserve energy.

"So our brain evolved to make us have this extremely powerful drive to eat. And ghrelin is one of the signals — it may be one of the most potent signals — in that drive to eat," he explained.

The study, published in the journal Cell Metabolism, involved giving injections of ghrelin or a placebo to volunteers three hours after they’d eaten a standardized meal. (Ghrelin levels spike when we are hungry and subside after we’ve eaten.)

The trial subjects were then shown pictures — some of different foods, some of scenery — while their brains were being scanned using magnetic resonance imaging, or MRIs.

When those who had received the ghrelin were looking at the food pictures, the MRIs showed the portions of their brains known to be involved in pleasure — the so-called reward centres — lit up, signalling they were activated.

That pattern of brain activation was not seen when they were looking at the pictures of scenery or when the people who received the placebo injection — saline solution — viewed the food pictures.

In addition, parts of the brain involved in vision were more active when the volunteers who got the ghrelin injection looked at the pictures of food, suggesting they were actually processing the visual information better. They later remembered the food pictures better as well.

The reward centres activated in the experiment are also known to be involved in drug addiction. That suggests it’s reasonable to believe that high-calorie food might have greater appeal — and greater addictive potential — than lower-calorie alternatives, Dagher said, though he hastened to say this study doesn’t prove that.

In fact, the researchers did not try to measure in this work whether burgers and pizza — a couple of their pictured foods — triggered greater brain activity than did salads, which were also shown.

They did find, though, that while all those who got the ghrelin injection responded, the level of response differed among the individuals.

That underscores the complexity of the system — and the challenge of trying to use the information to find ways to modify eating impulses, said Dr. Diane Finegood, scientific director of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research’s Institute of Nutrition, Metabolism and Diabetes."

MIND GAMES...

Look at the image below. Is the dancer turning clockwise or counter-clockwise?

Photobucket

If you see her turning clockwise, then the left side of your brain is doing most of the work, which means you are more of a logical/analytical person.

If you see the dancer turning counter-clockwise, then the right side of your brain is in charge, meaning you are an artistic/intuitive person.

Your brain controls the direction in which the dancer turns.

Now that your brain is all scrambled, here are some pointers from Dave Barry:

14 THINGS THAT IT TOOK ME OVER 50 YEARS TO LEARN

"1. Never, under any circumstances, take a laxative and a sleeping pill on the same night.

2. If you had to identify, in one word, the reason why the human race has not achieved and never will achieve its full potential, that word would be "meetings."

3. There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."

4. People who want to share their religious views with you almost never want you to share yours with them.

5. You should not confuse your career with your life.

6. Nobody cares if you can't dance well. Just get up and dance.

7. Never lick a steak knife.

8. The most destructive force in the universe is gossip.

9. You will never find anybody who can give you a clear and compelling reason why we observe daylight savings time.

10. You should never say anything to a woman that even remotely suggests that you think she's pregnant unless you can see an actual baby emerging from her at that moment.

11. There comes a time when you should stop expecting other people to make a big deal about your birthday. That time is age eleven.

12. The one thing that unites all human beings, regardless of age, gender, religion, economic status or ethnic background, is that, deep down inside, we ALL believe that we are above-average drivers.

13. A person who is nice to you but rude to a waiter is not a nice person (This is very important. Pay attention. It never fails.)

14. Your friends love you anyway."
